| ||||||
2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois General Assembly wish | ||||||
3 | to congratulate Susan E. Richter for her designation as the | ||||||
4 | 82nd recipient of the First Citizen Award by the Danville | ||||||
5 | Chapter of American Business Clubs, Inc.; and
| ||||||
6 | WHEREAS, William L. White founded the first American | ||||||
7 | Business Club in Birmingham, Alabama in 1922 as a service | ||||||
8 | organization for business professionals; that first club had 50 | ||||||
9 | members, who adopted the motto of "Shoulders Together", which | ||||||
10 | is still used today; and
| ||||||
11 | WHEREAS, In 1932, the Danville Chapter of AMBUCS started | ||||||
12 | presenting an annual award to a community member in recognition | ||||||
13 | of outstanding community service; and
| ||||||
14 | WHEREAS, Susan Richter began working in 1976 as a volunteer | ||||||
15 | and gift shop manager at the Vermilion County Museum Society in | ||||||
16 | Danville; she became the Museum's curator in 1990 and its | ||||||
17 | Director in 1991; she has also been the co-editor of the | ||||||
18 | Museum's quarterly magazine, "The Heritage", since 1981; and
| ||||||
19 | WHEREAS, Susan Richter has been instrumental in the | ||||||
20 | planning and implementation of the Vermilion County Museum's | ||||||
21 | Historical School, which is used by all third graders in |
| |||||||
| |||||||
1 | Danville's School District 118 and most other county schools to | ||||||
2 | meet local history programming requirements set by the State; | ||||||
3 | and
| ||||||
4 | WHEREAS, From August of 1999 until August of 2000, Susan | ||||||
5 | Richter served as chairwoman of the Museum's fundraising | ||||||
6 | committee to build the new museum building, which was | ||||||
7 | subsequently completed in 2002; she also served as a co-chair | ||||||
8 | for the Museum's 50th anniversary celebration and fundraising | ||||||
9 | campaign from September of 2013 until May of 2015; and
| ||||||
10 | WHEREAS, Susan Richter has fostered strong working | ||||||
11 | relationships between the Museum Society and other | ||||||
12 | organizations throughout Vermilion County, resulting in | ||||||
13 | collaborations with 21 other organizations to produce projects | ||||||
14 | and programs within the Museum's mission scope; and
| ||||||
15 | WHEREAS, From 1987 to 2008, Susan Richter served on the | ||||||
16 | Illinois Association of Museum Board of Directors, where she | ||||||
17 | held the positions of Director-at-Large, Secretary, and Region | ||||||
18 | 2 Director; she also served on the Board of Directors for the | ||||||
19 | Illinois State Archives from 2007 to 2013; and
| ||||||
20 | WHEREAS, Susan Richter served as the president of the | ||||||
21 | Danville Garden Club from 1989 to 1990; she also served as | ||||||
22 | president-elect from 1987 to 1989 and as treasurer from 1999 to |

1 | 2015; and
| ||||||
2 | WHEREAS, Susan Richter served as president of the Women's | ||||||
3 | Council of Muncie Baptist Church for 17 years; she also taught | ||||||
4 | an adult Sunday school class for 22 years and a children's | ||||||
5 | Sunday school class for 10 years; she is also the chairwoman of | ||||||
6 | the Memorial Committee and a member of the Christian Education | ||||||
7 | Board and the MBC Annex Board; and
| ||||||
8 | WHEREAS, Susan Richter is a former board member of the | ||||||
9 | Danville YWCA, where she also served as secretary, treasurer, | ||||||
10 | and as the chairwoman of the fundraising committee; and
| ||||||
11 | WHEREAS, Susan Richter currently serves on the Red Mask | ||||||
12 | Players board as treasurer and previously served on that board | ||||||
13 | as secretary and as the chair of the scholarship committee; she | ||||||
14 | also serves on the Spring Hill Cemetery Board as the board | ||||||
15 | secretary and a member of the Danville Executive Club; and
| ||||||
16 | WHEREAS, Susan Richter has been honored over the years with | ||||||
17 | many distinguished and deserved awards associated with the | ||||||
18 | Museum; in 1997, she earned the Illinois State DAR Award for | ||||||
19 | Best Program; she was also named "Woman of the Year" by the | ||||||
20 | American Association of University Women in 1999 and received | ||||||
21 | the Old Towne Preservation Legacy Award for Historical | ||||||
22 | Preservation in 2013; therefore, be it

1 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE | ||||||
2 | NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we | ||||||
3 | thank Susan E. Richter for her many years of service to the | ||||||
4 | people of Danville and Vermilion County and congratulate her | ||||||
5 | for being honored as the 82nd First Citizen Award recipient by | ||||||
6 | the Danville Chapter of American Business Clubs, Inc.; and be | ||||||
7 | it further
| ||||||
8 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
9 | presented to Susan Richter as an expression of our | ||||||
10 | congratulations and appreciation for her service to others.
