2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | ||||||
3 | learn of the death of Giles Ronald Weigandt of Moline, who | ||||||
4 | passed away on July 6, 2015; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, Giles Weigandt was born in Moline on August 7, | ||||||
6 | 1932 to Arnold and Hannah Schiller Weigandt; he served in the | ||||||
7 | United States Army during the Korean War from 1953 to 1955; he | ||||||
8 | graduated from Augustana College in Rock Island in 1956 with a | ||||||
9 | master's degree in psychology; and
| ||||||
10 | WHEREAS, Giles Weigandt worked as a mortuary assistant for | ||||||
11 | Esterdahl Mortuary and Crematory, Ltd. in Moline from 1985 to | ||||||
12 | 2010; prior to that, from 1957 to 1973, he was the manager of | ||||||
13 | Weigandt's Meat Market and Specialty Store in Moline; he was | ||||||
14 | also a well-known handwriting analyst and consultant to | ||||||
15 | lawyers, police, and the public; and
| ||||||
16 | WHEREAS, Giles Weigandt studied commercial art and | ||||||
17 | graduated from the Art Instruction, Inc. of Minneapolis; he was | ||||||
18 | a speaker to hundreds of area groups on handwriting analysis | ||||||
19 | and a teacher of handwriting analysis since 1971 at area | ||||||
20 | community colleges and adult education facilities; he was | ||||||
21 | President of the Illowa Handwriting Analysis Club since 1970 | ||||||
22 | and a member of the American Association of Handwriting |

1 | Analysts; he conducted workshops for other professional | ||||||
2 | graphologists and wrote an instruction book on handwriting | ||||||
3 | analysis, which was used in teaching classes; he volunteered | ||||||
4 | for programs on handwriting analysis at various nursing homes | ||||||
5 | and hospitals; and
| ||||||
6 | WHEREAS, Giles Weigandt was a member of the Moline Veterans | ||||||
7 | of Foreign Wars and the Moline American Legion; he was a life | ||||||
8 | member of Trinity Lutheran, where he had been a choir member | ||||||
9 | for 62 years and served for several terms on church council and | ||||||
10 | on various task forces; he was also a church soloist at many | ||||||
11 | churches in the area; since its founding in 1949, he had been | ||||||
12 | active in the Quad-City Music Guild through 1977, singing in 35 | ||||||
13 | of their productions; he was a member of the Metropolitan Opera | ||||||
14 | Guild since 1955; he was also a funeral soloist for many of the | ||||||
15 | area funeral homes; and
| ||||||
16 | WHEREAS, Giles Weigandt traveled in every state, plus | ||||||
17 | several foreign countries; he was the family historian and kept | ||||||
18 | many local pictures with family going back to the 1890s, | ||||||
19 | including historical notes and pictures on Moline's 7th Street | ||||||
20 | area; he kept a large library at his home; he was also an | ||||||
21 | artist and painted many landscapes; and

22 | WHEREAS, Giles Weigandt was preceded in death by his | ||||||
23 | parents and his sister, Corrine Tiedge; and

1 | WHEREAS, Giles Weigandt is survived by his brothers and | ||||||
2 | sisters, Dale Weigandt, Pat (Bob) Kleinsmith, Janice Allinger, | ||||||
3 | and Randy (Penny) Weigandt; therefore, be it
| ||||||
4 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL | ||||||
5 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | ||||||
6 | Giles Ronald Weigandt, and extend our sincere condolences to | ||||||
7 | his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it | ||||||
8 | further

9 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
10 | presented to the family of Giles Weigandt as an expression of | ||||||
11 | our deepest sympathy.
