1		SENATE RESOLUTION
2		WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3		learn of the death of Menke Henry Franzen of rural Rantoul, who
4		passed away on August 2, 2015; and
5		WHEREAS, Menke Franzen was born on October 9, 1919 in
6		Champaign County; his parents were Henry and Anna (nee
7		Osterbur) Franzen; he married Margaret Kathryn Albers on March
8		17, 1940 in Champaign County; and
9		WHEREAS, Menke Franzen was employed as a deputy sheriff in
10		Champaign County for 20 years; and
11		WHEREAS, Menke Franzen was a member of Immanuel Lutheran
12		Church in Flatville, where he was president of the Luther
13		League and served as deacon for 4 years; he served on Flatville
14		Parish Hall building committee; he also served as treasurer for
15		14 years and as president of the Lutheran Brotherhood; and
16		WHEREAS, Menke Franzen served his community in many
17		capacities; he helped organize the Rantoul Little League under
18		Mayor Hap Parker, where he served as an officer for 4 years and
19		president for 2 years; he played baseball for the Flatville
20		Eastern Illinois League for 14 years; he was president of
21		Gifford Elevator for 15 years; he was president of the Gifford

1		Lions Club; he also served as drainage commissioner for 30
2		years, precinct committeeman for Compromise Township,
3		treasurer for Champaign County Law Enforcement, a council
4		member of Garden of Peace Lutheran Church in St. Petersburg,
5		Florida, property chairman for 2 years, and a member of the
6		Rantoul Moose Lodge; and
7		WHEREAS, Menke Franzen was preceded in death by his wife,
8		Margaret, and a sister, Thea Suits; and
9		WHEREAS, Menke Franzen is survived by 4 children, Gary
10		(Beverly) Franzen, Gayle (Peggy) Franzen, Kathleen (John)
11		Swanson, and Todd (Pam) Franzen; 10 grandchildren; and 19
12		great-grandchildren; therefore, be it
13		RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL
14		ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we, along with his
15		family and friends, mourn the passing of Menke Henry Franzen;
16		and be it further
17		RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
18		presented to the family of Menke Franzen as an expression of
19		our sympathy.
