SENATE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Menke Henry Franzen of rural Rantoul, who
4passed away on August 2, 2015; and
5 WHEREAS, Menke Franzen was born on October 9, 1919 in
6Champaign County; his parents were Henry and Anna (nee
7Osterbur) Franzen; he married Margaret Kathryn Albers on March
817, 1940 in Champaign County; and
9 WHEREAS, Menke Franzen was employed as a deputy sheriff in
10Champaign County for 20 years; and
11 WHEREAS, Menke Franzen was a member of Immanuel Lutheran
12Church in Flatville, where he was president of the Luther
13League and served as deacon for 4 years; he served on Flatville
14Parish Hall building committee; he also served as treasurer for
1514 years and as president of the Lutheran Brotherhood; and
16 WHEREAS, Menke Franzen served his community in many
17capacities; he helped organize the Rantoul Little League under
18Mayor Hap Parker, where he served as an officer for 4 years and
19president for 2 years; he played baseball for the Flatville
20Eastern Illinois League for 14 years; he was president of
21Gifford Elevator for 15 years; he was president of the Gifford

1Lions Club; he also served as drainage commissioner for 30
2years, precinct committeeman for Compromise Township,
3treasurer for Champaign County Law Enforcement, a council
4member of Garden of Peace Lutheran Church in St. Petersburg,
5Florida, property chairman for 2 years, and a member of the
6Rantoul Moose Lodge; and
7 WHEREAS, Menke Franzen was preceded in death by his wife,
8Margaret, and a sister, Thea Suits; and
9 WHEREAS, Menke Franzen is survived by 4 children, Gary
10(Beverly) Franzen, Gayle (Peggy) Franzen, Kathleen (John)
11Swanson, and Todd (Pam) Franzen; 10 grandchildren; and 19
12great-grandchildren; therefore, be it
13 RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL
14ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we, along with his
15family and friends, mourn the passing of Menke Henry Franzen;
16and be it further
17 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
18presented to the family of Menke Franzen as an expression of
19our sympathy.
