Rep. Yanez offered the following resolution:
House Resolution No. 56.
A resolution to declare April 18-25, 2015, as Money Smart Week in the state of Michigan.
Whereas, The Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago coordinates Money Smart Week, a nationwide annual public awareness and educational campaign that takes place April 18-25, 2015; and
Whereas, Money Smart Week is a designed to help consumers better manage their personal finances through educational programming offered to all demographics and income levels and covers all facets of personal finance; and
Whereas, Michigan has participated in Money Smart Week for many years through the through the collaboration and coordinated effort of hundreds of organizations including financial institutions, non-profit groups, government entities, schools, and libraries; and
Whereas, The week showcases these organizations’ educational resources, strengthens private-public partnerships, engages the media, and connects people with those who can help them learn how to better manage their money; and
Whereas, Personal financial education and money management skills are crucial to enable Michigan residents to manage credit and debt and be responsible workers, heads of households, homeowners, investors, entrepreneurs, business leaders, and productive citizens; and
Whereas, Over 250,000 participants nationwide benefitted from Money Smart Week last year nationwide with Michigan among the states with a large involvement. Last year in Michigan 455 events were conducted during Money Smart Week by 245 partners in 47 counties reaching 13,051 participants of all ages with money management education; and
Whereas, Money Smart Week highlights the commitment of credit unions throughout the state to strengthen the financial knowledge and capability of people through financial education; now, therefore, be it
Resolved by the House of Representatives, That the members of this legislative body declare April 18-25, 2015, as Money Smart Week in the state of Michigan. We acknowledge the great contributions of Money Smart Week in our state; and be it further
Resolved, That we call on each resident, business, community organization and unit of government to observe this week with participation in Money Smart Week programs and activities.
