1.5BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA:
1.6 Section 1. Minnesota Statutes 2014, section 609.165, subdivision 1d, is amended to read:
1.7 Subd. 1d.
Judicial restoration of ability to possess firearm by felon. A person
1.8prohibited by state law from shipping, transporting, possessing, or receiving a firearm
1.9because of a conviction or a delinquency adjudication for committing a crime of violence
1.10may petition
a the court to restore the person's ability to possess, receive, ship, or transport
1.11firearms and otherwise deal with firearms.
Application for relief under this subdivision
1.12shall be made in the district court of the county in which the conviction or delinquency
1.13adjudication occurred.
1.14The court may grant the relief sought if the person shows good cause to do so and
1.15the person has been released from physical confinement.
1.16If a petition is denied, the person may not file another petition until three years
have
1.17elapsed without the permission of the court.
1.18EFFECTIVE DATE.This section is effective July 1, 2015.
