1.1A Senate resolution
1.2proclaiming May 6-12, 2015, as Nurses Week.
1.3WHEREAS, the state of Minnesota places the highest priority on quality health care
1.4for all of our citizens and greatly appreciates the 116,685 dedicated and professional licensed
1.5nurses in the state; and
1.6WHEREAS, the Minnesota Nurses Association effectively pursues its mission to promote
1.7the professional, economic, and personal well-being of nurses, uphold and advance excellence,
1.8integrity, and autonomy in the practice of nursing, and advocate for quality care that is accessible
1.9and affordable for patients and consumers; and
1.10WHEREAS, the depth and breadth of the registered nursing profession meets the different
1.11and emerging health care needs of the American population in a wide range of settings, including
1.12large medical centers, local hospitals, outpatient clinics, psychiatric centers, nursing homes,
1.13veterans homes, addiction treatment centers, correctional facilities, medical rehab facilities,
1.14homes for the developmentally disabled, adolescent residential and secure facilities, community
1.15facilities, schools, private offices, family homes, and public health services; and
1.16WHEREAS, the cost-effective and high quality health care services provided by registered
1.17nurses will be an even more important component of Minnesota's health care delivery system; and
1.18WHEREAS, professional nursing has been demonstrated to be an indispensable component
1.19in the safety and quality of care of hospitalized patients, patients in their homes, and children in
1.20schools, and more qualified registered nurses will be needed in the future to meet the renewed
1.21emphasis on primary and preventive health care and increasingly complex needs of health care
1.22consumers in this state; and
2.1WHEREAS, the Minnesota Nurses Association has declared the week of May 6-12,
2.22015, as Nurses Week to coincide with the anniversary of the birth of Florence Nightingale in
2.3celebration of the many ways in which registered nurses strive to provide safe and high quality
2.4patient care and continue to serve to be an advocate for patients; and
2.5NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Senate of the State of Minnesota that it
2.6hereby proclaims May 6-12, 2015, as Nurses Week and asks that all residents of this state join in
2.7honoring the registered nurses who care for all of us.
2.8BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the residents of the state of Minnesota celebrate
2.9registered nursing's accomplishments and efforts to deliver quality patient care and show our
2.10appreciation for the state's registered nurses not just during this week but at every opportunity
2.11throughout the year.
2.12BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is directed to prepare
2.13an enrolled copy of this resolution, to be authenticated by the Secretary's signature and that of
2.14the Chair of the Senate Rules and Administration Committee, and transmit it to the Minnesota
2.15Nurses Association.
