House Resolution 132

A RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING THE MAGNOLIA REGIONAL HEALTH CENTER ON THE OCCASION OF ITS 50TH ANNIVERSARY.

     WHEREAS, the Magnolia Regional Health Center (MRHC) is celebrating its 50th Anniversary; and

     WHEREAS, the MRHC has been in existence since 1965 and has grown into the largest employer in Alcorn County; and

     WHEREAS, it is a 200 bed acute care community hospital that is jointly owned by the City of Corinth and Alcorn County, Mississippi, and is fully accredited by the Joint Commission; and

     WHEREAS, in 2007, MRHC constructed an addition which included three new patient floors, a surgical intensive care unit, new private short stay surgery rooms, new private pre & post heart cath rooms, new surgery recovery positions, three additional new operating rooms, a new cardiac rehabilitation area and six new medical office suites; and

     WHEREAS, also in 2007, the Magnolia Heart and Vascular Center opened offering cardiac intervention and open heart surgery; and

     WHEREAS, in 2013, MRHC opened its newly constructed 53,000 square feet addition, which included a new front entrance, and a new radiology department was also built, which allowed the facility to house state of the art equipment, such as 1.5 large bore MRI, three 128 slice CT scanners, two Spect CT Nuclear Cameras, digital mammography, and stereotactic biopsy; and

     WHEREAS, in 2015 alone, MRHC has received great recognition, such as the 2013 Top Performer on Key Quality Measures by the Joint Commission, which elevated their hospital rank to a class that only 1,224 hospitals achieve; and

     WHEREAS, MRHC was one of six hospitals in Mississippi to qualify in four areas of quality by demonstrating its expertise in Chest Pain Center Accreditation with PCI from the Society of Cardiovascular Patient Care and the Mission Lifeline Gold Receiving Quality Achievement Award for implementing specific quality improvement measures outlined by the American Heart Association for the treatment of patients who suffer severe heart attacks; and

     WHEREAS, for the third year in a row, they were included in the list of the top 25 Most Wired Small and Rural Hospitals in the country, which required them to meet requirements in the areas of infrastructure, business and administrative management, clinical quality and safety and clinical integration, which earned them the Most Wired award in Mississippi; and

     WHEREAS, it has also earned the Most Improved distinction, given to hospitals which have improved the most throughout the year; and

     WHEREAS, the Magnolia Regional Health Center, not only prides itself as a leading, innovative hospital, but also takes great pride for its community outreach; and

     WHEREAS, MRHC is very proud to be an integral part of the community it serves, not only providing care to the patients in Alcorn County, but the five surrounding counties in northeast Mississippi, and three counties in southern Tennessee; and

     WHEREAS, it is the policy of the House of Representative to commend and congratulate our fine institutions of health, which provide great health care to the community and to the citizens of this state:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby congratulate the Magnolia Regional Health Center on the occasion of its 50th Anniversary.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to the Magnolia Regional Health Center and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
