SYNOPSIS
Expresses support for the creation of task force on gun control led by Vice President Biden.

A Senate Resolution expressing support for the creation of the task force on gun control led by Vice President Biden.
Whereas, On December 14, 2012, a man armed with a semi-automatic AR-15 assault rifle and two pistols rampaged through Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut killing 20 young children, who were six and seven years old, and six adults before killing himself; and
Whereas, In the wake of this tragedy, President Obama announced an interagency task force that will be led by Vice President Biden and will recommend gun control proposals and other measures; and
Whereas, The task force, which includes Cabinet officials and outside organizations, will examine the current gun laws and how these laws are enforced; and
Whereas, The task force will submit proposals for tightening gun laws, which may include banning assault weapons, banning high capacity magazines, and strengthening background checks; and
Whereas, Beyond firearms restrictions, the task force will explore ways to improve mental health resources, address ways to create a culture that does not promote violence, and engage mental health professionals, law-enforcement officials, educators, parents, and communities to help find solutions; and
Whereas, It is altogether fitting and proper for the Senate to express support for the creation of the task force on gun control led by Vice President Biden and to recognize the importance of the task force's proposals in preventing horrific shootings from occurring again in this country and in providing protection for the citizens of the United States; now, therefore,
Be It Resolved by the Senate of the State of New Jersey:
1. The Senate of this State expresses support for the creation of the task force on gun control led by Vice President Biden and recognizes the importance of task force's proposals in preventing horrific shootings from occurring again in this country.
2. Duly authenticated copies of this Senate Resolution, signed by the President of the Senate and attested by the Secretary thereof, shall be transmitted to the President of the United States, the Vice President of the United States, the presiding officers of the United States Congress, and every member of the United States Congress elected from this State.
STATEMENT
This Senate Resolution expresses support for the creation of the task force on gun control led by Vice President Biden and recognizes the importance of the task force's proposals in preventing horrific shootings from occurring again in this country.
