An Assembly Resolution urging the New Jersey Chamber of Commerce to redirect its annual Walk to Washington train ride, reception, and dinner to Atlantic City, New Jersey.

Whereas, The 75th annual, Diamond Anniversay, Walk to Washington train ride, reception, and dinner, sponsored by the New Jersey Chamber of Commerce, will be held on January 26, 2012, as is the custom, in Washington, D.C.; and

Whereas, The annual affair, the purpose of which is to stimulate a dialogue among government and business leaders, involves several hundred members of the governmental and business communities; and

Whereas, A substantial financial benefit accrues to the municipality and area in which the event is held, not only from the conduct of the reception and dinner, but from hotel accommodations, transportation, and media usage; and

Whereas, A redirected trip in this State will showcase Atlantic City's ability to host a large gathering and reinforce the city's status as a prime convention center; and

Whereas, An in-State trip has the ability to highlight businesses throughout the State and send the message that New Jersey is actively engaged in the promotion of business; and

Whereas, A local trip, redirected to Atlantic City, will reduce the time and costs associated with the current trip; and

Whereas, Because it is in the interest of the New Jersey Chamber of Commerce to further business and commercial development in the State, it is fitting and appropriate that this State enjoy the benefit and honor of having the annual event held in "A.C., not D.C."; now, therefore,

Be It Resolved by the General Assembly of the State of New Jersey:

     1.    The New Jersey Chamber of Commerce is urged to redirect its annual Walk to Washington train ride, reception, and dinner to Atlantic City, New Jersey.

     2.    Duly authenticated copies of this resolution, signed by the Speaker of the General Assembly and attested by the Clerk of the General Assembly, be transmitted to the New Jersey Chamber of Commerce.
