TITONE -- read once and referred to the Committee on Environmental Conservation AN ACT to direct the department of environmental conservation to study the impact of lead ammunition on New York wildlife The People of the State of New York, represented in Senate and Assem- bly, do enact as follows: 1 Section 1. 1. The department of environmental conservation shall 2 conduct a study on the impact of lead ammunition on New York wildlife 3 and make recommendations on how to mitigate harms, if any, identified by 4 such study. Such department shall solicit the input and cooperation of 5 researchers and stakeholders it deems relevant when designing such study 6 and in determining how to implement such recommendations. The scope of 7 such study shall include, but not be limited to: 8 a. the impact on the overall health of New York wildlife from lead 9 fragments; 10 b. an isotopic analysis of lead samples found in wildlife to determine 11 the source of such lead samples; 12 c. an examination of the direct and indirect impact of lead poisoning 13 on population growth and decline of New York wildlife with a focus on 14 such wildlife that is subject to conservation efforts; 15 d. which geographic regions of the state are particularly affected by 16 lead poisoning; and 17 e. which species of wildlife are particularly affected by lead poison- 18 ing. 19 2. Such department shall issue a report containing the findings of the 20 study to the legislature no later than eighteen months succeeding the 21 date on which this act shall have become a law. 22 § 2.
