R E S O L U T I O N
 
         WHEREAS, Beverly Kaufman is concluding her tenure as chair of
  the advisory board of the Hobby Center for Public Policy at the
  University of Houston on June 1, 2015; and
         WHEREAS, The Hobby Center was established in 1981 as part of
  the university's College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences, and
  it provides nonpartisan data and analysis to public officials,
  business professionals, community leaders, and other members of the
  Houston community; it also supplies polling data through its Survey
  Research Institute, coordinates a government internship program,
  and maintains a community outreach effort; and
         WHEREAS, Beverly Kaufman first joined the Hobby Center
  advisory board in 2000 and was reappointed in 2007; since March
  2012, she has held the position of chair, playing a vital leadership
  role in the board's activities and contributing greatly to the work
  of the center; and
         WHEREAS, A native of Houston, Ms. Kaufman has enjoyed a
  35-year career in public service, including 16 years as Harris
  County clerk; she has also generously shared her time and expertise
  as president of the Texas Federation of Republican Women, Women
  Professionals in Government, Texas Executive Women, and the
  National Association of County Recorders, Election Officials, and
  Clerks; moreover, she has served as a member of the board for the
  Justice Information Management System, Taping for the Blind, the
  Houston Council for the Blind, and the United States Election
  Assistance Commission, among many other groups; and
         WHEREAS, Ms. Kaufman's numerous honors include a 2003 Women
  on the Move Award, the 2005 County Best Practices Superior
  Innovation Award, and the 2007 Linda S. Carter Award for Excellence
  in Government; in 2009, she was cited as one of Houston's 50 Most
  Influential Women by Houston Woman Magazine; and
         WHEREAS, Beverly Kaufman's skill, dedication, and
  professionalism have greatly benefited the Hobby Center and earned
  her the respect and admiration of her fellow board members and the
  center's staff, and she may indeed reflect with pride on her notable
  contributions; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas
  Legislature hereby commend Beverly Kaufman on her exemplary tenure
  as chair of the advisory board of the Hobby Center for Public Policy
  and extend to her sincere best wishes for continued success in her
  important work with the board; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Ms. Kaufman as an expression of high regard by the
  Texas House of Representatives.
