SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 532
 
 
  In Memory
  of
  Kennedy Clay Roland
 
         WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the
  citizens of Lockhart in mourning the loss of civic leader Kennedy
  Clay Roland, who died January 21, 2015, at the age of 52; and
         WHEREAS, Kenny Roland was born on August 16, 1962, to Joe
  Irene Roland and Preston Roland Jr.; he was a 1980 graduate of
  Lockhart High School, where he was a standout athlete on the
  football, basketball, and track teams; and
         WHEREAS, He enjoyed a 34-year career with the Bluebonnet
  Electric Cooperative as a journeyman lineman and construction
  crew supervisor; and
         WHEREAS, Mr. Roland was committed to public service, and in
  1998, he became the first African American to be elected to the
  Lockhart City Council; he represented District 1 for more than a
  decade before serving as an at-large council member; he was the
  founder of the District 1 Pride organization, and he played a
  vital role in organizing the city's first Martin Luther King Jr.
  Parade; and
         WHEREAS, A man of courage, strength, and kindness, Kenny
  Roland gave unselfishly to others, and his wisdom, his generous
  spirit, and his enthusiasm for living each day to the fullest
  served as an inspiration to his family and countless friends; and
         WHEREAS, He was a devoted husband to his wife, Catherine,
  andadotingfathertohisdaughter,Kennedy,andheleaves
  behind memories that will be treasured forever by all who were
  privileged to share in his life; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 84th
  Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved
  family of Kennedy Clay Roland; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
  his family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas
  Senate and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in
  memory of Kennedy Clay Roland.
