WHEREAS, Steve Farmer, owner of Steve Farmer Auto Sales, Inc., in Altavista was named the Virginia Independent Automobile Dealer Association's Quality Dealer of the Year for 2013; and

WHEREAS, the Virginia Independent Automobile Dealers Association (VIADA) Quality Dealer of the Year award recognizes independent automobile dealers for their contributions to the industry, community and professional service, and adherence to a code of ethics; and

WHEREAS, Steve Farmer was introduced to the world of automobile sales in 1970 as a salesman for Shively Chevrolet in Altavista; and

WHEREAS, Steve Farmer Auto Sales has been a member of VIADA for 28 years, since Steve Farmer opened the dealership in 1987; and

WHEREAS, Steve Farmer supports his community by serving on the Altavista Life Saving and First Aid Crew and leading the Hurt PTA, Altavista High School Colonels Club, and numerous fundraising efforts for both church and community projects; he has served as choir director and Sunday school teacher at his church; and

WHEREAS, Steve Farmer also contributes to his community by helping organize and steer the annual Easter egg hunt for the physically and intellectually challenged for over 20 years and helping with delivery of over 100 holiday food baskets to those in need, as well as other community efforts, including the American Cancer Society's Relay for Life; and

WHEREAS, Steve Farmer and his son Steve Farmer, Jr., exemplify the strength of families working together; and

WHEREAS, Steve Farmer received Rotary Club Paul Harris Fellow designation and was the recipient of the Rotary Club 110 Percent Distinction Award; he was also awarded the Altavista Area Chamber of Commerce Citizen of the Year Award in 2013; and

WHEREAS, Steve Farmer has made many contributions to VIADA throughout his career, serving on the board of directors in many capacities, including state president; and

WHEREAS, Steve Farmer was appointed by three Virginia governors to the Motor Vehicle Dealer Board, where he served for 10 years; and

WHEREAS, Steve Farmer is a hardworking businessman who represents the important role of small businesses in the Commonwealth; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the Senate, the House of Delegates concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend Steve Farmer on his selection as the Virginia Independent Automobile Dealers Association Quality Dealer of the Year for 2013; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Steve Farmer as an expression of the General Assembly's appreciation for his achievements and best wishes in his future endeavors.
