SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 97
Commending the James Monroe High School football team.
 
Agreed to by the Senate, February 19, 2015
 

WHEREAS, the James Monroe High School football team of Fredericksburg won the Virginia High School League Group 3A state quarterfinal on November 29, 2014; and

WHEREAS, the James Monroe High School football team defeated teams from Warren County High School and John Champe High School in the first and second rounds of the playoffs; and

WHEREAS, the James Monroe High School Yellow Jackets then bested the Loudoun Valley High School Vikings, winning the state quarterfinal by a score of 34–19; and

WHEREAS, the James Monroe High School Yellow Jackets advanced to the state semifinal against Magna Vista High School, finishing the season with an 11–3 overall record; and

WHEREAS, the James Monroe High School Yellow Jackets have been one of the winningest teams in the region since 2003, with 121 victories and one state title in 2008; the team's head coach, Rich Serbay, was inducted into the Virginia High School League Hall of Fame in 2014 for his exceptional leadership; and

WHEREAS, the successful season is a testament to the skill and dedication of all of the athletes, the able leadership of the coaches and staff, and the enthusiastic support of the entire James Monroe High School community; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the Senate of Virginia, That the James Monroe High School football team hereby be commended on winning the Virginia High School League Group 3A quarterfinal in 2014; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Rich Serbay, head coach of the James Monroe High School football team, as an expression of the Senate of Virginia's admiration for the team's accomplishments and best wishes for the future.
